JoSAA 2017 Seat matrix– Available seats: JoSAA 2017 is a Joint Seat Allocation Authority appointed to allocate seats to the aspiring JEE Mains or JEE Advanced candidates in the top engineering colleges like IIT’s, NIIT’s etc. based on their score and rank in the JEE mains and or JEE Advanced examination held for the year 2016. Until 2015, CSAB used to conduct admission procedures to these top engineering colleges in the country.

But from this year, the flagship is taken by the new body JoSAA. Through its various rounds like registration, choice or preference form filling, document verification, seat allotment, it ensures to grant seat to the serving candidates solely based on their merit. It thus aims at awarding merit with a seat in the top engineering colleges.
The Seat Matrix for JoSAA 2017 includes distribution of the seats and their allocation. It should be noted that the seat allocation for IIT’s will be done in three rounds which will followed by the last round which will be for the preparatory or remaining seats.The other colleges like NIIT’s, GFTI’s and IIIT’s will include 4 rounds of seat allocation out of which the first three will be common with the IIT’s. The seat allocation is based on the following:
- Category of candidate like general or reserved.
- Standing or position of the candidate in the rank or merit list.
- Choices filled in the sequence of preferences given.
- Seat availability in different categories and quota based on the merit of the candidate.
- Business rules for JoSAA 2017.
The candidates will have the option to free, float or slide the seats allocated to them. In the case of freeze, the candidate is not eligible for further rounds, buts in case of float and slide, the candidate can appear for further rounds of seat allocation.
